MILLENIUM FALCON

Still a work in progress, in fact i am considering rebuilding the whole thing in 3ds max now, but you can look at what i have done for now.

This was very difficult to construct using GTK, the patch system works well for Architecture but is very limited when being used for such complex work, it was whilst working on this that i realised i had to learn 3ds max if i wanted to do this vessel justice , so i have learned quite a bit about max but i am still very much a novice and will attempt to finish this this year i hope.

I havent worked on this for more than 2 years now, wow, i have learned alot lets see if its paid of.

The ramp to get on board, its basic i know but we have to start somewhere.

Getting the flow of the textures was a real task, i got to know the surface inspector real well! i think i could work out the scales know if i tried, but it WAS realy hard to get them right, i think switching to max will be a doddle compared to GTK, i think i was really overstretching things thinking i could build it in GTK, but this is how we learn.

One of the most noticable parts of the Falcon when i got this texture finished i had goose bumps, i get a real buzz from working with textures.

From here it looks ok !, but i want to get up close and personal with this baby, i will try to get the interior right too, i have lots of referance material to look at and plenty of screen caps from the dvd.

You can see the detail in the textures but the surface is just flat, i used to think that a really good texture would be enough, but now as the quality of gaming improves all the time we need to ad more detail too the structure too.

Front view in GTK Radiant, you can see the complexity of the patches on the left side of the ship, this is the weakest part of the ship hardly any textures line up.

I tried to get the cargo loader in and i did, it will be cool to see it from inside the hold when its all done.
